Amazing experience, my kids loved it. Can recommend enough.

The safari included in the entrance fee is definitely a highlight. They have done an awesome job of making lots of interactive kid activities between all the animal enclosures, so even if the animals are hiding away the kids love all the in-between activities.

It was fun especially the Safari Tour. The tour itself is worth the ticket price so thats something not to be missed. It started to rain halfway through our visit so we couldnt really complete covering the whole zoo. Dont expect to see 1000 animals there though but the gorillas are one of the highlights. Nonetheless, still a pleasant trip and great experience in an open range zoo.

Better than Melbourne zoo

My family and I had a great time at Werribee Zoo.

We went on an afternoon during the week, not busy at all and we got to see all the animals and take in the safari bus ride, which is always a favorite with us and the kids!

Nice zoo to visit in Melbourne, do not miss Safari!

This zoo is fantastic. The work theyve done in the last 5 years or so to improve the quality of the habitats for the animals is amazing. Theyve also put in a lot of work to give the zoo an immersive Disneyland-esque quality, with themed surrounds, and signs featuring names of animals in the Lahore
language of their countries of origin. Looking forward to welcoming the elephants here in the next year or so! Im a Zoos Victoria member and so proud to support their zoos.

Go! Deluxe Safari tour was definitely worth it. Close enough to shake ! Welcoming & friendly staff everywhere! Lots of great picnic areas and cafes. The entire Zoo truly captures the African vibe esp with the live drumming, fun dancing, face painting etc. My favourite hands down is the Ethiopian coffee ceremony. To sit & enjoy hot coffee with popcorn & bread was amazing. Definitely coming back! Favourite animal visit was ! Looking forward to the completion of renovations etc are coming!

The zoo is a bit far from the city center. We went in the afternoon, just in time to catch the last safari bus at 3:30pm. Sitting on an open bus and watching the wild animals up close are very nice expenrice. We also went along the trail to see other animals, so happy to see the kangaroo and koala. I recommend going in the morning so you can have enough time to explore the zoo.

Animals look happy.. GO on the bus ride just wear a good warm jacket.. Lions are beautiful.. cubs will be on show soon . Food there is expensive.. it's a nice day . Take lunch and have a picnic .

We had a fantastic day at Werribee Open Range Zoo today. Getting there was easy, heaps of parking and being members we were straight in. Lots of animals to see, heaps of things for the kids to do. We had a great chat with two staff members about what we had seen and the kids were also shown some cool snake skins and animals bones while waiting for the bus tour. Easy to find toilets and the cafes to get food. All in all, a great visit and we will return.

Lovely day out, with so much to see and fun atmosphere. Lots of picnic areas to sit and enjoy as well as afew food kiosks and BBQ area. Entry was free for my daughter and safari tour is included in entry price but is 100% optional to take part in. It goes for 40 minutes the safari and our tour guide and driver for it was very funny. Will never forget my daughters face when learning that Camels can hydrate from eating their own snot lol. Fantastic family day out whilst supporting wildlife. The gift shop at the end was also fair priced, soft toys my daughter bought were such great quality for their cost and the jewelry we bought was solid. Highly recommend.

Highlight of my trip! Our guide Georgia was so knowledgeable! I purchased the Deluxe Safari and this is well worth it. The general public bus was provided and included in admission, but was a large bus that held about 100 people, including many children (not for me), and because of the size of the bus, it could only stay on the road. Our deluxe safari bus only had 9 people, and we were able to drive off road right to see the animals.. We were just a few metres away from all the giraffes, rhinos, ostriches and zebras. 5 stars for sure!!

Best Place to visit with kids

I've been a Zoos Victoria member for over 10 years, and Werribee Zoo never gets boring! It's a short drive from the surrounding suburbs, which means that there is minimal traffic and it's usually easy to find parking spaces. The cafes have great food, the overall environment is kept impeccable. But most importantly the wildlife, obviously monitored closely by dedicated keepers, have large enclosures also kept green by a horticulturist team.

I recommend this zoo for families with children, or anyone in general, as there are tons of entertaining and educational activities for everyone to enjoy (such as the safari bus, which is where you can view most of the animals at one time). It's clear that this zoo values the protection and conservation efforts of wildlife, and visiting is what has made me want to become a zookeeper!

I love this zoo. I have visited it two times, definitely will visit again. I wish it was close to the city.
There is a free safari bus inside the zoo. A long queue, unless you are a very lucky person, you most likely need to wait around 15-20. But, it is very worth it. I recommend you to ride the safari bus.

Not the biggest zoo but thats part of its charm. The kids Safari ride was the highlight, and we got manage to get up close to animals such as giraffes and ostriches. Amazing.

I love coming to Werribee Zoo. This place has lots to offer for children and adults. Membership is affordable with excellent benefits. It's worth checking to get a membership with unlimited entry and discounts.
The highlight is joining the 40-50 minute Safari Bus. Amy, our bus guide, offered excellent knowledge about the animals we encountered on our tour. Amy added her touch about the animals personality and great exciting facts. Everyone in the Tour bus in my group was impressed and left happy.
Their main restaurant has a great food selection from $10-$30. You have the kiosk for quick hot chips, chicken nuggets for the kids and a selection of pies. Of course, there's ice cream to choose from and drinks.
There's plenty of parking on-site and walking distance to the main entrance. It's a nice drive to the Werribee. You can visit the Werribee Mansion and the garden area.

It was such a delight to see the lion cubs with their beautiful mama lion, and the safari tour was the best one yet.

Zoo is pretty good for children to learn about animals life

Beautiful place to visit, the kids enjoyed the experience, not too busy being a school day so no waiting at all. Lots of seating and shaded areas for hot days, and toilets everywhere. Loved the safari shuttle definitely a must to see all the beautiful creatures in this Zoo.

Some renovations are going on, but it did not detract from the fun we had here as a family

Slumber Safari @ Werribee Zoo was an amazing experience for the family. This place offered a camping experience of being in a tent with all your personal amenities one needs for camping. After settling into our family tent we grouped together and went on a night walk of the zoo. Followed by a nice warm meal and hot chocolate by the outdoor open fire. The next day followed by a private tour of the zoo and a close experience with the rhinoceros and giraffes in the savannah. Highly recommend, lots of great fun for families.

Absolutely loved our day out at Werribee Open Range Zoo! It's not every day you get to see majestic animals roam freely in such vast spaces, feeling almost like you're on an African safari right here in Australia.

Can't more highly recommend this zoo. Grandkids loved it, despite it being a very busy day. Safari Tour had quite a queue but worth the wait.

Come early and do the safari in the morning and afternoon. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. Huge props to Aaron the tour guide and the lady dressed as a lion. The food is nice and sitting by the meerkats is a treat. Stay all day and take your time to see all the animals. Fantastic visit.

A relaxed wander through the place looking at all these beautiful creatures.
They all appear to be well cared for, which for some is better than getting poached in the wild. They work with Melbourne Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary to preserve the many species, which in today's world is a must.

Busy

Though undergoing soe abortion renovations, there is still plenty to see and do. The elephant enclosure has been removed & is being reconstructed, so the elephants have been relocated util work is completed.
The meerkat Cafe was very busy, but the food was hot & tasty.
Prices in the Cafe high but are on par with any tourist attraction.

Highly recommend. Especially the safari bus. Each time you go around on it, its a different experience and you can get so close to the animals

Since getting a membership have been a few times recently, love Werribee Zoo and have had a great time with my grandchildren. Only negative is waiting so long in the Safari bus queue, not much you can you about that though.

zoo experience was absolutely amazing! From the moment you stepped through the gates, you were greeted by a world filled with fascinating creatures and incredible sights. The vibrant colors of the birds, the graceful movements of the big cats, and the playful antics of the monkeys brought so much joy to your day. It was like being transported into a whole new world, where you could connect with animals from all corners of the globe. The zookeepers were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing interesting facts and stories about each animal. You even had the chance to feed some of them and get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures. It was an experience that left you feeling grateful for the wonders of nature and the opportunity to witness such incredible wildlife.

Such a great zoo. I was in a wheelchair and the venue is accessible, including a lift available for getting onto the safari buses. The wheelchair is available for free hire.

You can take your own food in, I even saw a birthday party being held.

Entry for kids is free on Victorian School Holidays and weekends.

Super fun and there were all types of animals! You should go on the safari ride as it brings you up close to the animals and you can get many beautiful photos. Theres also food there so you will never be hungry! 100% recommend to anyone whos looking for a fun experience!

You HAVE to do the Safari experience when you go here. I found that the most interesting animals outside of the Safari were either hidden away, inactive, or just not there. Pretty cool to have an Emu pop out of the bushes right next to you and casually walk past while you freak out a bit. But Safari is where it's at! Super cool tour guides there too that keeps it extra interesting and lay down some great jokes.

Safari slumber over night:

Pros: Very comfortable furniture with electrical outlets, glamping! 4 star features in canvas tent. Very good food and drinks. Late night zoo access. Helps if the kids are quiet before you approach the cheetah. Saw early morning animal feedings, but need to wake up at 7 am.

Cons: minor issues, freeway traffic increased in last 6 months due to Geelong port, need a sound barrier which awaits local govt approval... Also needs a 3rd power point for each bedside for electronic devices.

My husband and I, had a wonderful time on Early Morning Savannah Experience. Ranger Paul warmly welcomed us with a big smile and friendly. He is very experienced, knowledgeable, and responsible (remind us about safety). Any questions that we asked, he will definitely answered us. We had a great time chatting and sharing our experiences with the animals we've encountered before. Once again thank you Ranger Paul and Werribee Zoo staffs for giving us such a great memories.

the work these guys do is nothing short of amazing. Really recommend paying extra for one of the safari tours. We got so lucky with our driver Ade!! He knew so much and we loved our tour. The animals have so much space and are so healthy and well cared for. Love love love this place

This was a fantastic experience for my kids. They enjoyed seeing the various animals The zoo was huge with lots of open area for the animals to roam freely. The tram ride was the highlight which was relaxing and the guide was very informative. The park trail was also a fun experience as we got to interact with the roaming animals. Overall, it was a good and fun experience for the family. I will strongly recommend this as a must visit place where you will need at least 2-3 hours to enjoy the various zones thoroughly.

This is such a fun zoo to visit. Great to bring the families, school groups or for work functions (which is what we did).
We played a scavenger hunt game and had so much fun seeing the animals and learning lots.
The safari is definitely a highlight and a must do to get up close to some beautiful creatures.
The staff are all passionate and highly educated in conservation and protection.
Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun corporate event you look here for something different.

We had an amazing time at Werribee zoo. The land seems very adequate for the animals, and seems to replicate their original environment well. Given where the world is at with climate change and hunting, it's great to hear the efforts Werribee zoo has made to ensure the population of these animals. Shout out to Kyle our safari guide too!

If you're looking for a great day out with the whole family then you have to visit Werribee Open Range Zoo! We had a blast and had to become yearly members too while we were there. Did you know that if you decide you'd like to become a member after you've already paid your entry fee you can and your entry fee gets deducted from the total price! What a win! The Werribee Open Range Zoo is doing such great conservation work, it's worth every penny to help these beautiful animals right in our back yard!!

We had fun experience at this zoo, even though it was rainy day. We were just nice at Hippo talk session with the zookeeper, he is very friendly and informative. All animals are well taken care of. We definitely will visit again next year! Cant wait to see those lovely elephants family from Melbourne zoo moving to the Werribee zoo on 2024. Would recommend this place to anyone, idea for fun family activities at the zoo.

Now we know why everyone loves this zoo, fantastic. The staff are knowledgeable & helpful. The Safari was such a highlight - go at lunchtime!
So much to see & it's great to hear about all the conservation work happening. Plenty for the kids to do & enjoy. Definitely take swimmers for the water play area as this was lovely on a hot day.
Be warned - the gift shop is good & we left with enormous fluffy leopards

This place is great. The animals have some room to run around and were happier. It is great to see them participating in repopulating near extinct and extinct in the wild animals back to the wild

Suggest to be there early for parking and also you wouldnt see much in the afternoon when most of them taking naps.

Great little safari adventure within the zoo. Large area to see animals in more of a natural habitat and the guides give great info during the ride. The rest of the zoo is easy to walk around.

Awesome fun for the kids but the food is quite dear so be prepared, the elephants were not there today but we were promised that they would be there next week.

Prefer this Zoo, then Melbourne Zoo, as it portrays the animals a bit better in their natural habitat. There are lots of fun things to do, especially the safari. Easy to speak to staff and good cafe and food choices.

We visited it today and the weather was great- not too hot, not too cold, no sunny. It was cool and perfect for walking in the zoo. The air is so fresh. The staff was so nice and friendly. We all loved the Safari bus tour. I am a wheelchair user. They had a well organised for those like me. On the Safari tour, we had chance to see and were introduced to diverse wild animals. Highly recommended

Perfectly place to spend time with kids.

5 stars for the bride's assistant; Andy. She was attentive, helpful, patient and very caring. The couple were very happy, same with the wedding ceremony and reception guests. The other staff were great too.
But for me, this was the first time I had visited the Werribee Zoo, and I don't know.... I was expecting more. Maybe the standard I had in mind was Melbourne Zoo, which is beautiful, lush and meticulously maintained. But Werribee Zoo... not so much.

An experience to remember, staff helpful. A delightful day. Especially Safari ride to see all the animals. A must to do again.

Had the best day at the zoo. We saw all the animals except the wild dogs. You have to be patient for the hippos as they are underwater for long periods. The lions was the highlight. The gorillas are huge. Rhinos, zebras, giraffes, antiplope, ostriches, and so many baby everythings. The lion experience will not be matched I dont think. The elephant enclosure was being built. Get to the open air free safari bus early because there are more people wanting to do it than seats on the bus. Very well run and organised zoo

Such an amazing place, this was my first visit with my wife and son.

We all had the best time, we were on the Deluxe Safari and it far exceeded our expectations, our guide was a wealth of knowledge, she genuinely lived what she did.

There were even areas that we didn't look as well didn't have enough time so we will need to return again soon.

Great zoo animal displays are great. Safari bus definitely worth going on its part of entry fee. Easily spend a full day there I have a mobility disability but found getting around zoo to be very easy. Highly recommend a visit it's worth every bit of entry fee

Very impressed by this zoo. We enjoyed the 40 min long safari, the children's play area, and especially the display of lions. The zoo used to have a reputation that the animals were far away, however our experience was the opposite. Staff were great too!

Safari is excellent

If you seriously want a taste of Africa, and go on a safari to experience the African savannah wild life or just a great day out - then jump in your car and drive the 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD to the Werribee Open Range Zoo. If you're just a local or a visitor to Melbourne, then this is a MUST for an out of this World Adventure experience! Why would you pay around $3,600 for an airfare to Africa, and take the 22 hour flight plus tour costs for a safari experience, when you can just about see everything and experience everything at the Werribee Open Range Zoo. You'll pay around $46.00 for an adult admission, and cheaper for concession card holders/pensioners and children for entry, and we suggest you book on line to avoid disappointment. Upon entry, suggest you then jump on the FREE safari adventure bus and listen to the wonderful commentary to experience the African savannah and everything it offers - and this is what makes this Zoo so special, and so different from other Zoo's. Some of the animals you'll see at the Zoo in there natural habitat include - giraffe's, zebra's, rhino's, hippo's, lions, gorillas, African wild dog's, meerkats, various antelopes and deer, bison, snake's, wild horses, ostriches, koala's, and bird life. And there's ample FREE car parking, plenty of clean facilities to use throughout your day, and a snack bar and restaurant for food and drink's. Truly, this was an experience to remember forever - Very Highly recommended

I was visiting so I went twice only, I love the safari bus, it is busy at times and need booking, got a ticket in the parking lot as I did not notice it was limited

Safari bus was a winner, definitely fantastic to see the animals in large open enclosures. Can't wait for the elephants to move in from Melbourne Zoo later this year.

A great place to visit with family and friends. Open zoo safari is quite big and well maintained. My kids enjoy alot.
Zoo also has nice cafeteria with sufficient variety of foods. Cafeteria do not accept cash so i pay by my international card.
It was nice hot weather but during open zoo safari, weather changes quickly and it turns cool.
I will take at least 3.5 hours to visit all areas of zoo. There are many places to take awesome photos, especially in the huts .
For Australian Trials, there are few Australian animals, kindly include more numbers because African animals, we can see in other countries also.

I loved visiting this place. The safari ride is lovely. The organization was very good and everything is signposted. In any case, if you get lost you can always contact the zoo staff and they will be happy to help. It is a plan to enjoy with family, partner or friends.

Great animals and enclosures - love those lions and the safari bus. The keepers and staff were so knowledgeable, friendly and so helpful. Thank you for making it so enjoyable.

We did the morning savannah tour with Michael and had the most incredible experiences. I almost can't believe the photos and videos we got because they're so amazing they look like a safari.
Michael gave us an amazing insight into the animals and the zoos inner workings. His commentary brought the landscape to life and taught us about biology, logistics, breeding, importing, and welfare of the incredible animals they keep in the zoo.

Absolutely recommend coming to Werribee open range zoo. It is really easy to get to from Melbourne. You can take a train from Flinders Street station direct to Werribee after you get off the train stop at Werribee, there is a bus that runs to the zoo. They run pretty frequently on the weekend and are always filled with tourists going to the zoo or the mansion. During the weekday, the bus runs hourly, so make sure you check out the schedule or it is really easy to grab an Uber from the train station as an alternative.

The highlight of this zoo absolutely has be the safari. If you go during peak times or on the weekends, there's going to be a very long line to go on the safari. It is very similar to the animal kingdom safari if you have gone to Disneyland in the states. You get to see a variety of animals in their natural habitat and learn a lot of fun facts about the zoo one of my favorite fun facts was that the Water buffalo smell absolutely terrible.

Food options aren't great at the zoo but you can get a burger and some good coffee. There are some nice spots to eat by the train station so maybe build in some time to stop there before heading home.

TLDR definitely worth a visit. You can also expand your trip and go to the mansion. Really easy and fun day trip from Melbourne.

Honestly best zoo we have been to, so family friendly, throughout the entire zoo there is many play areas/ activities for the kids, even a splash pad which was very popular. Canteen inside also so no need to go to the bistro at the main entrance. Great service throughout the zoo. Definitely worth the visit and the entry price ticket includes a safari ride which is an awesome addition.

Had a really nice day out with my family. Got in early (around 10am) and it wasn't overly busy. Ended the day with a ride on the safari bus. Don't be disheartened at the potential massive line for the bus as there are multiple buses, and the turnover time is fairly quick. We saw the most being on the bus as a lot of the other animals were either hiding, sleeping, or simply not in the enclosure at the time. There are lots of food stops and a playground for the kids. It's not too far from the freeway, so getting there is fairly straightforward.

Awesome experience!!

I did a Slumber safari - overnight stay and I loved the experience. They take you out for a twilight bus ride, evening walk around the park and couple of close wildlife encounters . The staff were really friendly, food was good and accommodation was good as well. It was a unique experience.

If you love wildlife and you cannot travel to Africa, I highly recommend to do slumber safari experience.

Safari bus tour was definitely a highlight! It's free with normal entrance ticket and leaves often so you don't have to wait for long. Would recommend seeing the hippos in the morning as they go into the water during the hotter times of the day and hard to get a good look at them when they're under the water.

Havent been for ~15+ years and the zoo has grown, the safari is fantastic with around 10 minute waits and massive safari busses. The staff were polite and love what they do, all very chirpy for working on a public holiday and great with kids. Great experience and the moving Dinos are on the loose

Great day out! Lots to see, friendly staff and big enclosures for the animals. My 2 & 4 y/o especially liked the safari bus ride. The queue was long but moved quickly and the guide was terrific.

Amazing zoo for family, friends and everyone. Highly recommended you got to experience the safari bus to see for yourself those incredible animals in front of your eye, that close to you. And today our guy is Leo to explain those animals knowledge and culture for us. Its an extra cost to do this but trust me, its worthwhile. And you will not regret it.

Werribee Open ranges is a great experience, especially with younger kids with the free safari bus! You get to see animals right up next to bus. It is definitely a whole day trip location and they allow you to bring your own food to have a picnic lunch. There are plenty of places (benches and soft grass) to have lunch. Plenty of great photo opportunities as you can see here!

Loved it here! Highly recommend. The animals had large areas to roam, and the safari bus gets you up close enough to see all and get some amazing photos!

This is a must see in Melbourne just about an hr drive the zoo was so cool the safari was so cool and is just over 40 mins but included in price I recommend for all ages

What a lovely few hours at the Open Range Zoo today, we all loved it, especially the Deluxe Safari as it got you close with fewer people and good commentary.
If you live close enough a Yearly Pass is a great idea.
I thought the animal enclosures were well thought out with them having plenty of space. Great to see.
The new elephant enclosure will be a real benefit to the zoo.

A really excellent experience, we went as two adults and found it exceed our expectations. The Deluxe Safari Adventure extra was also well worth the money and I would highly recommend this to adults and kids alike. As you can see from my photos - I saw a lot of great animals.
