Incredible experience today for high tea. Wonderful food, gorgeous venue & very friendly staff. I saw another comment saying they werent flexible with dietaries - I disagree, I am pregnant and they were very informed with what I couldnt have, my dishes were all delicious and there were no dramas. Such a lovely experience!

The Marion was a beautiful place to hold our ceremony and reception. The venue was perfection, overlooking the lake with stunning views. The staff took great care of us and all our family and accommodated to our needs. They were all friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The food and table service was amazing, our guests loved it! We also opted for a gin bar and could not recommend this enough, it was a good chance to get people moving around and mingling as well as yummy gins to try! Overall, a wonderful experience and one we will cherish for the rest of our lives!

Nothing was too difficult, and no question was too silly. The staff is eager to go above and beyond to make your dreams a reality. The best High Tea I've had in a long time. The food was exceptional. High quality and great variety. Also plentiful, with the staff bringing out take away cartons at the end. Clearly this happens a fair bit.

My wife and I got married at The Marion in late September of 2023.

It was a very special day, and the venue and its event staff were exemplary and highly professional.

The lake backdrop makes for some stunning photography opportunities, and the view both inside and out is gorgeous.

The food was delicious too.

I took my parents and sisters here for lunch today and the service was exceptional as well as the food. We really enjoyed it and my parents are quite fussy about food and aren't easily pleased. This place went above their expectations and they really enjoyed themselves. My dad is not well so seeing him eat and enjoy the food made me feel really nice. Really want to thank the staff for providing a nice experience. Well done and definitely shows they take pride in their service and name. Thank you and will definitely be visiting soon.

The High Tea experience here was great with a lot of variety of sweet and savoury and delicious drinks to go with. They do cater for dietary options too. The best part was the white gloved tea pouring service and the fantastic view. When making a reservation I'd suggest asking to sit by the front window.

Best place in Canberra for High Tea

For a long time, I've always wanted to try high tea, and I finally got my chance, and from the moment I arrived, until I left. This was an amazing experience, and the staff made it so. The food and the tea were extraordinary, with a view of the lake second to none. It's a memory I'll always cherish.

Had high tea here. Superb location overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. Impeccable service. Food and beverages first class. Venue perfect, high quality settings. Ideal for special occasions or just to spoil yourself.

Lovely setting for lunch with great views all round. Food was delicious and well presented. Had the special wagyu steak to share between 2 and it was fantastic. The accompanying portion of mashed potato and carrots was a bit too large for lunch but tasted great. Others on the table had the fish which was also delicious. The gnocchi and starters were good enough but not as delicious as the other dishes. Would return for a special lunch.

I had my birthday lunch here and thoroughly enjoyed it! There was a mix up with my Red Balloon booking and I didnt get a window seat but Tanya went out of her way to accommodate us so I did have a view. We had the whole outdoor patio area to ourselves and it was perfect!

We had the weekend high tea - what a lovely venue! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service fantastic, the food amazing. Even on a wet and cold winter's day, the room was warm and light. The tables were not squashed together, with beautiful decor and tableware. Totally rate it for a high tea experience.

We were gifted a Traditional High Tea at The Marion, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They catered to our dietary requirements and also you can ask for seconds. The food was very fresh. The scones were nice and fluffy, not dense at all, the sandwiches were amazing. Highly recommend.

The Marion High Tea is a genuine fine dining experience. Faultless service and exquisite food in an elegant setting, with a beautiful water view. The food, in both quality and quantity, was a cut above any other high tea I've experienced, and I've had many!

This was our first visit to the Marion and I was blown away by the beauty of the location, high above Lake Burley Griffin with views of the National Library, Art Gallery High Court buildings (amongst many!). This was a overcast day but still a wonderful view. We elected to have the sparking High Tea which included a beautiful Australian sparking wine and tea - with a choice of 40+ teas available. The food was magnificent and plentiful and the service was first class particularly from Chris who looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

Just beautiful high tea

We had our wedding at The Marion and from the moment we met with our wedding coordinator we were put at ease, nothing seemed too hard and I felt as though I could truely trust them. Leading up to the event Jana was attentive & made sure that we were 100% happy with everything.
Our wedding night was amazing, the service was wonderful, the food was next level and the team made sure to check in with me throughout the night to make sure I was happy. Our guests are still raving about the whole evening. Would definitely recommend The Marion for anyone who is thinking of getting married. Thank you again!

Edit: We were welcomed back last week for a full three course dining experience with their compliments. The food was great, the service was very attentive and staff checked in multiple times to ensure everything was okay. In particular one French (I think!) gentleman working there was so lovely and accomodating that I wish Id asked his name to include here. Huge shoutout to Sophie (Director of Sales) for arrange this and staff for turning this around. Happy to have had a different experience this time and happy to change my review to reflect this.

Really strange experience. We booked through Red Balloon for a 3 course a la carte lunch experience. No one seemed to be aware when we arrived as we had two other set menus explained to us, so we asked whether we were free to just order each course from the a la carte menu. We were told the Red Balloon voucher works in that $150 is taken from the bill at the end and you pay any extra. $150 wouldnt even cover a three course lunch for two people even if the customer chose the cheapest 3 dishes on the menu. This is confusing as you pay $200 for the voucher, so this business is literally short-changing you $50 which makes no sense at all. A voucher is meant to incentivise your customers to buy to guarantee your business, not rip them off.

We ended up only ordering two courses each, a side and a coffee to try to stay within the $150.

The food was nice enough, but the service was slow which was strange as only about a quarter of the tables actually had patrons. We probably wouldnt come back here in all honesty and definitely do not recommend purchasing the Red Balloon offer at all as it is falsely advertised that a three course a la carte lunch is included in the voucher price, and you will literally be shortchanged $50. Better to dine normally, if at all. We feel really disappointed that what was supposed to be a nice lunch which we took time off work for ended up being quite disappointing, and we felt a bit cheated. The Marion needs to put accurate information on their voucher offer, because this is really just dishonest.

I had my baby shower recently at the Marion in their private events space which was perfect for what I wanted. Jana was great to work with in coordinating the day and our server in the room was lovely and attentive! Beautiful space, good food and service

My wife and I held our wedding at the Marion in late 2024 and it was beyond the most perfect venue we could have asked for. From the moment we first laid eyes on the site we were in love: the main reception hall is gorgeously furnished and has sweeping views of the central basin of the lake and all of Canberra's landmarks. The outdoor space underneath the hall is equally stunning and there is even a spacey private room that you can use as a bridal suite for changing, getting ready, storage or a quiet room for guests.

The food was incredibly delicious; we were able to sample the season's menu well in advance and having to make a choice between the options was almost impossible.

The staff were all so helpful and easy to work with. Jess was an amazing support throughout the planning process and accommodated all our requests, like holding our ceremony on the deck but still using the outdoor space underneath the main hall for a cocktail hour. She also coordinated with all of our vendors which was such a help especially in the final couple days. Nabin and Abira were also amazing event managers during our reception and kept everything going smoothly throughout the night.

Lastly, as a queer couple we were specifically looking for a safe and inclusive venue to celebrate with our loved ones and chosen family - the Marion provided that in spades and we would definitely recommend them to others like us.

Best wedding venue in Canberra!!!

Nine of us enjoyed a sparkling high tea at Marion to celebrate my 70th birthday. We had a wonderful time. The high tea was delicious and the Restaurant catered perfectly for those of us with allergies or were coeliacs. Overall we had a wonderful time and I really enjoyed the celebration.

Wow what a beautiful experience. The Marion has the most beautiful outlook across the parliamentary triangle. We just had a fabulous lunch with every single course being totally delicious. The set menu included wine or beer and a coffee at the end. Cannot fault a single thing including the lovely Flavia who looked after our every need. Definitely a return visit and maybe many returns in the future. High recommend it.

Stunning venue. Perfect lunch spot. Fantastic service and sublime menu. The Chefs steak is great value, and the desserts are some of the best Ive had anywhere. Its great to eat at venues where you can tell how talented the chef is and with this level of care given to every detail.

We had lunch at The Marion the other day, and the food was absolutely incredible. Wanting to indulge further, we decided to try the high teaand it did not disappoint. The selection was generous, the quality outstanding, and every bite was packed with flavor. It was truly great value for such a refined experience.

To make it even better, we opted for the bottomless brunch, allowing us to enjoy as much as we wanted. At $150 for a couple, it was an unbeatable deal for limitless food and one of the finest dining experiences weve ever had. The staff were incredibly attentive and extremely friendly, which only enhanced our visit. Highly recommended!

Attended a dinner/meeting and the food was fantastic! Beautiful venue too!

I am an event planner and recently had some clients host their wedding reception at The Marion. The staff were incredible to work with and so accommodating to my team and I. We are looking forward to working with them again soon!

What an excellent venue with stunning views and furnishings! I hosted a dinner meeting for ~70 guests and everything was perfect: food, service, venue etc.

A big thank you to Jana and the rest of her events team were extremely organised and professional when it came to planning the event so that the night would run seamlessly, which it did!

Thank you also to the venue manager Thomas and his wait staff, as well as the head chef and his team in the kitchen - they worked smart and hard to make sure we all had an excellent evening.

Loved indulging in morning tea at The Marion with a wonderful group of ladies. Nice service, beautiful, fresh sandwiches & cakes. Enormous fresh scones! And a lovely selection of loose leaf tea all served in silver pots & stands. Look forward to returning. My only note would be that communication via e-mail got mixed up and I initially had a booking at the QVB in Sydney! It was sorted & they worked with multiple dietaries for our group. So perhaps a more dedicated team handling e-mail inquiries?

Great venue for corporate event - service from the manager was exceptional, for a group of 35 people we had personalised coffee orders throughout the day that were remembered! What a venue, our wedding here in April was just incredible.

The service was top notch, no one had an empty drink, food drop and collect was almost unnoticeable.

Food was great and there was plenty of it. And they did tea and coffee!! They also let us bring 3 types of spirits to serve on the night as well.

The inside is wood panelled walls and carpet floors making for a beautiful internal finish (photos) but also acoustic baffling (can actually hear across tables!).

Organising with the Marion was very easy as they were very responsive.

We had a delightful afternoon celebrating my mums birthday. The food was excellent, the view is amazing and our server, Tanya, really made it special for us. Couldnt fault it.

We had our cocktail-style wedding reception at The Marion in winter 2025, and without a doubt it was one of the best wedding decisions we made! Cate, Jana and their team were always on hand to answer all our queries, at whatever stage of planning we were at. They also worked with our vendors in the lead up which significantly helped our mental load.
A real plus for us was the beautiful interior - it doesnt require loads and loads of decorations, as its already such great venue to look at.
Finally the food and alcohol package options both offered a smorgasbord of quality and variety. All of our guests commented on how fantastic all the food was!

I have enjoyed high tea 3 times now at the Marion on very special birthdays for friends and family and each time it has been amazing especially given I have to have a diary free selection. It was perfection and delicious, very special and the service impeccable and this time my friend was also given a very special individual birthday cake with Happy Birthday written on a chocolate card. It just topped it off along with having the best seats and view of the lake on a picture perfect winter day. Very special place for an indulgent high class high tea. Highly recommended

We attended the Truffle Dinner at the Marion last Friday evening. It was a truly wonderful experience! The food and wine were delicious, and the front of house staff were knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating. Everyone went that little bit extra to make our experience special. Chic and accessible. Went here for my 55th birthday. Had a divine high tea. The French waiter was a delight. Had a 1 and 3 years old with us and they were well catered for, high chair and kind praise for them trying all the yummy snacks. The Marion offers a delightful High Tea experience. The setting is stunning as it sits overlooking Lake Burleigh Griffin. We were looked after by attentive staff and the food was delicious. At first we thought there wasnt enough of the savoury petit fours but they were so flavoursome and surprisingly filling. Next came sandwiches, scones and sweet petit fours which were superb. We could not fault the quality or the quantity of the food. We would definitely come back.

We had the Traditional High Tea and were served an interesting and eclectic array of delicious savoury and sweet treats, which we could not finish. The tea menu is extensive and were given samples to smell to help decide. The service was impeccable and the staff ensured we had enough food and tea top ups. I will definitely be going again, perhaps for lunch next time.

Celebrated my birthday here for two years now with the afternoon high tea and hoping it will continue to be a cute personal tradition. The best high tea in Canberra and comes with a view that no place can beat.

Loved the food (and they are able to cater to many dietary requirements), loved the tea menu (Yunnan Tea was delicious and so aromatic), and the service is always so top notch. The staff are so professional and helpful. Although we were full, can never resist some extra sandwiches. Simple but so tasty!

This cake required on-site assembly for display, and Marion is actually the first venue Ive worked with that stepped in to assemble it without hesitation. (And yes the setup is very straightforward, but most venues still require the baker to return just for this.)

I would to thank Tanya and her team for helping to make our parents 60th Wedding Anniversary such a beautiful event. We hosted a lunch on The Terrace for around 50 people.
Tanya went above and beyond to ensure that everything went smoothly and that our guests were looked after to the highest standard.
The drinks were flowing throughout the day and the meals were delicious and plentiful.
The customer service was exemplary. The staff were extremely helpful in assisting us with the set up and packing up.
Tanya made my parents feel so welcome and cared for. She was relaxed throughout but was completely thorough in all her duties to make our event so special and successful.

My family and I spent a pleasant afternoon celebrating my 70th birthday. The staff were friendly and willing to accommodate any request. I liked that there was plenty of space between the tables so that my husband could hear clearly. I had a very happy day.

First visit to Canberra and decided to finish our wonderful trip with a high tea at The Marion. The Marion is in a perfect setting with the beautiful greenery from the gardens flowing down to the Lake Burley Griffin. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with amazing staff ready to ensure you will enjoy your experience. The table setting is lovely and the food exceptional. We opted for a glass of sparkling wine to be added to the huge choice of teas available. Our friend mentioned she has been to many high teas and The Marion comes out on top. No rush to finish and was even asked at the end if we wanted anything extra to eat. Such an awesome experience to conclude our Canberra visit. Thank you

The service on the day was excellent, and our wedding course meal received so many compliments from our guests. Everyone said the food was delicious and that the view at The Marion was absolutely beautiful.

He handled everything with such grace and ease! He was absolutely amazzzzzzing. Alice who was head of waitstaff was fabulous too and just the entire wait staff, bar staff, front desk, kitchen, those behind the scenes. Everyone made our night completely stress free!

And also to Jana our wedding co-ordinator for being so helpful along the way. Helping us plan, make last minute changes and just always keeping in touch. Nothing was too much of an ask from her, even having a whopping guest list of 192. The Marion made it happen.

Living in Sydney, I did some research on the best high tea in Canberra & the Marion was the strong recommendation. After visiting, I can confirm it is one of the best high teas Ive ever done and theres me been quite a few across the east coast of Australia! Every morsel served was done to perfection. Great service, a wonderful ambience & outlook & of course beautiful crockery & settings. Highly recommend.

We had our wedding here and it was absolutely beautiful. The venue itself is stunning and looks amazing in photos. The food was amazing as well! Eva was also very responsive throughout the whole process and always quick to answer our questions, which made planning so much easier. Were really glad we chose this venue for our special day.

We have visited the Marion for high tea a couple of times before, and on our most recent visit it really felt like the venue had hit their stride with it.

The service was excellent and the venue is absolutely stunning - perfect for celebrating a special occasion. The food was delicious, with a great balance of sweet and savoury and an amazing tea selection. The option to add on a birthday cake is such a thoughtful and fun touch, making it even more special for celebrations. A wonderful afternoon; no notes! We were visiting my sister in law in Canberra and went to The Marion for High Tea for her 80th birthday. One of the best high teas we have ever been to. Staff were excellent, not intrusive, but always checking on how we were going. The food was fresh and well prepared and presented. We added a glass of their Rose french champagne and it topped the afternoon off wonderfully.

We recently had our wedding reception at the Marion and the whole experience was absolutely incredible from planning stages through to the end.

The food was outstanding! every dish was beautifully prepared and SO delicious.
What really made us give 5 stars though, was the service. The team on the night was exceptional hands down the best service many of our guests have ever experienced. They havent stopped raving about the staff to us even a month later! Drinks were never empty, everything ran seamlessly, and the staff were so attentive without ever being intrusive. They even pay extra special attention to the wedding party and our wedding cake was also portioned perfectly, which we really appreciated.

Leading up to the day, the coordinators (especially Jana!) were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We handled our own decorations, and they were so patient and flexible with us coming and going to drop everything off and collect it. They were also open to collaborating and doing things a little differently, like placing our dance floor in a non-traditional spot, which ended up being one of the best decisions we made. Our guests loved the layout, especially because it allowed people to dance without it overwhelming those who wanted to sit, chat, and enjoy the evening.

And of course, the setting speaks for itself - the view over Lake Burley Griffin is absolutely stunning. Our interstate guests were so impressed by the beautiful scenery and iconic surroundings.

Beautiful Lunch - Great Views, Wine & Food.
Visited mid week for lunch and enjoyed 2 courses with paired wines. Food was beautiful. Seasoned perfectly and a beautiful combination of flavours. The snapper was an absolute highlight!

Wines featured both local and international options and were matched to the food. The option to get just a glass vs needing to get a glass with every course was welcome.

Service was friendly, quick, and on point without being in your face or obtrusive. The views over the lake were perfect - one of the absolute best in Canberra.

We will certainly return. Thanks for a great lunch!

It was a good experience. We had high tea on Easter, the Easter special was very tasty and cute with bunny ear. My friend prefers a vegetarian option, so they gave her a separate plate for the sandwich, and we shared the rest on the stand. The staff was polite and also checked on us to see if we needed help. They also introduced and told us about the food. The tea was amazing as well. We'll definitely be back again, and next time we'll have to book earlier to get a window seat. Nice atmosphere.

I have enjoyed high tea 5 times now at the Marion on very special birthdays for friends and family and each time it has been amazing especially given I have to have a diary free selection. It was perfection and delicious, very special and the service impeccable and this time my friend was also given a very special individual birthday cake with Happy Birthday written on a chocolate card. It just topped it off along with having the best seats and view of the lake on a picture perfect winter day. A very special place for an indulgent high class high tea. Highly recommended. Just recently I took my son to the Marion for a special lunch and they did not disappoint. The food was so special the experience every bit as good as previous ones and as ever the service impeccable

We had the chance to capture a wedding day here... recently, and honestly, this venue stands out as one of the best weve experienced in Canberra.

From a creative perspective, the space is incredible ...so many beautiful pockets for both photo and film, and it holds its energy really well from day through to night. Its one of those venues that just works, no matter the moment.

But what really elevated the experience for our team was the people behind it.

A big shoutout to staff named ...Drew, who genuinely went above and beyond. After nearly 10 hours on our feet, small things like being looked after .... even something as simple as coffees ....made a huge difference. Its rare, and it didnt go unnoticed. That level of care flows through the whole team and reflects in how smoothly the day runs.

Massive respect to everyone at The Marion. You can feel the intention behind what you do.

Wonderful High Tea experience!! In fact it is the BEST in Canberra. There are several high tea options to choose from. We chose the cocktail, sparkling and bottomless options! From the moment you arrive you feel instantly welcomed and like you are the only guests. Their attention to detail was wonderful. We had a few dietary requirements which they met with no hesitation. The vegan high tea looked and tasted amazing. The other high tea request was purely savoury which my guest enjoyed thoroughly. The serving sizes are very substantial so much so we had to ask for some containers to take our sweets home. I have been here numerous times and it just seems to get better and better. We also had a glorious day with amazing views from our table next to the windows.
Its definitely a must do when living in and visiting Canberra.

Really love the high tea here, we celebrated Mothers Day and it was such a lovely experience. Everyone was so friendly and approachable in servicing our table and the view was spectacular!!!

We were seated by the window and it really added a touch of specialness for my wife as they get to enjoy the lovely view.

When we arrived for Mother's day High tea we were welcomed by Tanya. What an angel. We laughed, and had such a connection with her we would have loved to take her home with us. Everything about our High Tea was fantastic: the location offered an amazing view over the lake; the food was wonderful - especially given that Im gluten intolerant and the service simply splendid!
