Selecting a bad movie for their first date couldn't stop a blossoming romance between Violette and Luke. While celebrating their first anniversary in the Yarra Valley, Luke proposed, and a further eight months on, the couple celebrated their marriage with a beautiful ‘Vintage Spring’ themed occasion in Sydney.
On a cool august afternoon, Luke and his groomsmen in their dark charcoal pinstriped suits waited patiently at the top of a Mosman church aisle as bridesmaids wearing deep plum-coloured chiffon gowns began their procession.
Then, on her brother’s arm and accompanied by her two year old niece, Emily, as flower girl, Violette appeared; a picture of vintage elegance in her full-length Louise Alvarez Couture gown of gold duchess silk overlaid with Italian lace hand-embellished with pearls and crystals.
The bride and her bridesmaids carried soft spring-coloured bouquets of pale pink and ivory rosebuds mixed with green berries and leaves.
After an emotional speech by Violette’s brother, who spoke on behalf of their father who had recently passed away, Violette and Luke took to the dancefloor for a choreographed routine to Michael Buble’s version of ‘Quando Quando’.
But the effect of a few cocktails earlier in the afternoon meant the couple soon forgot their rehearsed steps and switched to an improvised routine, much to the enjoyment of the guests! Then, as the evening drew to a close, Violette and Luke escaped in their dream getaway car – a vintage 1950 jaguar – before jetting off to Vietnam for a luxurious honeymoon.
The celebrations continued at Sergeants Mess in Chowder Bay, where ivory birdcages filled with flowers, vines, moss and tea light candles formed the table centrepieces, and were surrounded by more moss, votive candles and flowers.
The birdcage design was carried through to the stationery suite and even the wedding cake; its three tiers of strawberry and citrus, chocolate and coconut, and fruitcake were covered with white icing, and painted with a delicate birdcage and branch motif in deep purple.
