‘Country Chic’ was the theme for Hamish Esplin and Peta Hird’s Hunter Valley wedding with a navy, yellow and white colour scheme. Their romantic vision was brought to life with the creative genius of Peta’s friend from school Brooke Allott, owner of event planning and styling company Something White.
“Without Brooke, there’s no way we would have been able to pull together all the elements that made our day so memorable,” Peta said. “Don’t think twice about the cost of a planner or stylist. Find someone that shares your vision and who will make the entire process seamless.”
The exquisite garden ceremony was held beneath a floral arbour which incorporated rustic French doors.
Peta looked incredible in the gown she had found just three weeks earlier. “It was the second dress I purchased. The original dress was more formal than I wanted and didn’t fit with the styling elements we’d decided on,” she explained. “I fell in love with my dress and was in and out the store within 20 minutes, with hardly any alterations required”.
After heartfelt vows and hugs from well-wishers, the newlyweds posed for photos while guests sipped lemonade on the lawn and played croquet and quoits. The party then headed indoors to the restaurant illuminated by flickering tealight candles suspended in glass baubles from the ceiling.

‘Please find your seat and Bon Appetit’ was written on a welcome board directing everyone to their tables, where a unique bonbonniere awaited, shares in a foal named Our Gift To You, which is now in training at Randwick.
“Horse racing is a huge part of our lives, and we wanted to give everyone something that we could continue to celebrate together,” Peta said.
Work is now underway on a website so that everyone can track the progress of a wedding gift which will hopefully keep on giving.
“Her first race day will be a real laugh as we have 97 official owners,” Peta said. “No doubt, she will have a lot of support!”
