For their ceremony they chose the theme of Enchanted Garden Party. “I love anything green,” says Nicole, “so with the beautiful backdrop of Mount Martha, our arbour covered in vines, ferns and a chandelier, and amazing vintage florals that our florists managed to source for us (peonies in April!), I was in my own little enchanted heaven.”
For the reception the couple created a Vintage Carnival wonderland. “We tried to incorporate ‘To the moon and back’ in most of our detailing, as it is something that Jim and I say to each other often,” Nicole reveals. “We had a vintage carousel for the guests to ride on, as well as a vintage fairy floss and popcorn machine, a dessert table which included personalised cakes and cookies, and a Ferris wheel cupcake holder.
Nicole chose a long-sleeved lace princess wedding gown from Pronovias. “I didn’t know what style I would end up with when I went shopping, but as soon as I tried on my dress I just knew it was the one,” she reveals “It was the first dress I tried on and it reminded me a little of a Disney princess. I am not a girly girl, so I tried to make sure my hair was a little more edgy so I wasn’t too much like Cinderella.”
In keeping with the elaborate celebrations Nicole also opted for a costume change midway through the wedding. “I knew that I always wanted a second outfit that I could let loose with and just have fun, as my first gown was a little constricting. I ended up finding the perfect Sass & Bide pants and Toni Maticevski crop to change into for our first dance.”
As for one of the standout moments from the day, Nicole shares this: “During our reception the highlight for both of us was just after our first dance, when we had friends of ours, Gaz Kempster and Rob Muir jump on the bongos and saxophone to the song Jubel by Klingande. “This was a late addition in our run sheet, but it was something that I knew would just work. It really was a moment that all of our guests will never forget. The mood from that moment on was electric.”
