James Hough and Michelle Lémeray met on a night out with friends during their first year of university, and after seven amazing years together, the inseparable pair became engaged during a romantic Heron Island getaway. The couple decided on a Sydney wedding with a strong South American influence, reflecting the bride’s family heritage. Michelle said the opportunity to work with couture designer Louise Alvarez to create her own striking Spanish-style lace gown was a major highlight.
Walking down the aisle to marry her best friend was also something Michelle said she will never forget: “James is not one to get emotional and I wear my heart on my sleeve, but at the ceremony, a role reversal occurred and it was James who became emotional as soon as I took my first step down the aisle.”
Following the heart felt ceremony, guests arriving at the reception were treated to the festive tunes of a flamenco guitarist whilst enjoying canapés and the couple’s favourite pear mojito cocktails. The Balmoral Beach venue reminded Michelle and James of their relaxed Australian upbringing, and memories of a carefree childhood spent swimming and playing by the sea. “With the beach at the door, its amazing views, timber floors and outstanding food, it was perfect,” Michelle said.
Continuing the Spanish theme, tables were decorated with David Austin roses in crystal vases and wooden candlesticks with lace-wrapped tea lights completing the romantic mood. A vintage suitcase with a tag labelled ‘Bon Voyage’ became the couple’s honeymoon wishing well, and Michelle and James were lucky enough to enjoy another luxurious island getaway thanks to the generosity of family and friends. “Our honeymoon in Bora Bora in an overwater bungalow was the most unbelievable, unforgettable gift of a lifetime!” they said.
