How did you meet?
One Saturday night after quite a few drinks at a night club, we met through a friend. I remember asking Brett if I could wear his shoes because my heels were hurting my feet, he said YES, and the rest is history.
Tell us about the proposal.
Nine years after we met, Brett organized a romantic dinner at Fraser’s restaurant at Kings Park in Perth. After dinner, he took me down to watch the sun go down over Perth, and he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
How did you choose your Venue and location? Why?
We wanted a venue that we could have an outdoor reception. We envisioned food trucks, long tables filled with our family and friends, amazing wine and incredible food, fairy lights, and lots of dancing. Bulong Estate Winery is breathtaking and made everything we wished to come to life.
Tell us about your Gown (style, how you found it, what you loved about it). What
about the groom and the bridal party fashion choices?
My incredible best friend and bridesmaid Virginia created my dress. I had in my mind what I wanted and she went above and beyond over many hours to make my dress. I wanted my bridesmaids to choose their own dresses, and my goodness they picked incredible dresses. Brett and the groomsmen decided on chinos, bowtie, and shirts and Brett wore a blazer to stand out a little.
What Style / Styling did you choose for your wedding? (eg: colour scheme, flowers,
stationery, cake, transport, details, themes, inspiration, the overall “look and feel”)
Dusty pink, grey, and navy were our colors, my step mum made our delicious wedding cake, our flowers were moody pink tones with natives, we purchased an amazing old pink lounge that we had a “The Coghills” neon sign hanging over it for photos, fairy lights, long rows of tables. I don’t know if we had a style, just things I knew I needed for the wedding we envisioned.
What were the highlights of your day?
We did a first look in the Redwood forest nearby, seeing Brett's face when he turned around was my all-time favorite moment, along with his speech and our first dance.
Tell us about any funny, poignant, challenging, or emotional moments?
Half an hour before our ceremony we were told our wedding may not go ahead because of bushfires very close by, this was the most stressful part. There were tears but as soon as we got the go-ahead you could not wipe the smile off our faces.
Where did you go for your Honeymoon? Why?
Two days after our wedding I started university to study nursing, so no honeymoon as yet. But there is plenty of time in the future for us to have our honeymoon, lots of ideas have been thrown around.
Do you have any advice for other brides?
Consider a first look, it gives you an incredibly emotional and intimate moment with your partner, it also means you don’t have to be ripped away for photos after the ceremony and you can drink and dance until your loved up heart is content.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Invest in an amazing videographer, amazing photographer, good music, food, and wine! These are the memories that will last. Oh, and a good bridal party, I'm not sure if mine is up for hire, but my goodness they sure made our wedding day stress free and unforgettable.
