AUSTRALIAN ACTRESS BECCY ILAND HAD HER heart set on forties and fifties hollywood glamour for her wedding to interior architect George Livissianis, and her journey to the altar read just like a movie script. From a New York proposal and a stunning engagement ring to convertible Rolls Royce wedding cars, Beccy enjoyed the star treatment in the lead up to her big day. Her breathtaking designer gown was no exception, and she enlisted a leading bridal couturier to create her natural silk faille and ballerina tulle gown which was hand appliquéd in a French beaded lace.
Beneath a bamboo chuppah on the immaculate lawns of Sydney’s Vaucluse house, Beccy and George enjoyed an intimate Greek crowning ceremony which reflected their combined family heritage. “George is Greek and I am Jewish, so we wanted to incorporate elements of both of our backgrounds,” Beccy explained. “The celebrant briefly explained the meaning of anything cultural that we did so that it had relevance for our guests, too.” the couple said the ceremony was the major highlight of their day.
“The garden looked so pretty and took my breath away when I arrived, and it was just really magical – the sun came out through the clouds as I walked down the aisle, and it was very calm. It was wonderful listening to each other say the vows we had written together during a romantic weekend away on the south coast – and having our friends and family share readings. There was a lot of emotion between us at the ceremony, which we will always remember.”
The candlelit reception at the Wharf restaurant was equally as memorable, with Beccy describing it as a “big fat Greek/Jewish wedding” – and a fabulous party!
“The music was wonderful; we had a klezmer band at the start of the reception followed by a DJ and live bongos, and we danced the zorba and the hora so it was pretty wild. Being lifted on the chairs was brilliant fun (although not so easy in my dress!)”.
